Men's Basketball Hosts Barry in Exhibition Play Tuesday
Nov. 5, 2007
CORAL GABLES, FLA. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team will play host to Barry University in an exhibition contest at the BankUnited Center on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for reserved seating and $5 for general admission.
Miami will open the regular season at home on Friday, Nov. 9, versus Florida Southern at 7:30 p.m.
The Hurricanes return four starters from last year’s squad – who despite injury and adversity – tied a school record with four wins over ranked opponents and finished strong, taking three of their last four opponents to overtime and advancing to the second round of the ACC Tournament.
Miami welcomes back 80 percent of its scoring from last season, including its top-two scorers in juniors All-ACC selection Jack McClinton (Baltimore, Md.) and Brian Asbury (Miami, Fla./South Miami). McClinton averaged a team-leading 16.7 points per game and led the ACC in three-point field goals per game (2.9), three-point field goal percentage (.440) and free throw percentage (.895). Asbury started a team-high 31 games as a sophomore, and ranked second on the team in scoring with 11.7 points per game at a 44.3-percent clip.
The Hurricanes also return 87 percent of their rebounding from a season ago, bolstered by the return of fifth-year senior Anthony King (Durham, N.C.), who was leading the ACC with 9.3 rebounds per game before a wrist injury sidelined him for the final 24 games of the season. Junior Jimmy Graham (Goldsboro, N.C.) and sophomore Dwayne Collins (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior) will also add size and depth to the post and are expected to contribute immediately in the 2007-08 campaign.
Tuesday will also mark the potential debut for three new Hurricanes in junior transfer Lance Hurdle (San Diego, Calif.) and freshmen Eddie Rios (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior) and Julian Gamble (Durham, N.C.).
