The Game
The Miami Hurricanes make the quick trip north to battle the Owls of Florida Atlantic in a matchup at FAU Stadium. First pitch for the battle between Sunshine State foes is set for 6:30 p.m.
Pitching Matchup:
Two freshmen southpaws will make their first collegiate starts Wednesday: for the Hurricanes, Lighthouse Point, Fla., native Thomas Woodrey (0-0, 0.00 ERA), and for FAU, Lake Worth, Fla., native Brandon Rhodes (0-0. 0.00 ERA).
The Series
The Hurricanes hold a 51-10 all-time advantage over the Owls, including eight of the last ten head-to-head contests. Miami swept their three games with FAU in 2012, including a 3-1 win last time out at Alex Rodriguez Park.

Opening Day Magic
• After leading by three runs heading into the ninth inning, Hurricanes’ closer AJ Salcines set up a tense situation by surrendering three runs and the Canes’ lead.
• Garrett Kennedy would provide some needed ninth-inning magic, however, dropping a pinch-hit single into left field with bases loaded that plated Christopher Barr and Dale Carey for the walk-off win.
• Saturday’s walk-off in the opening leg of the doubleheader was the first walk-off win for the Hurricanes since their win over Bethune-Cookman on May 6, 2012.
2013 Recruiting Class Impresses
• The Canes’ incoming class was rated among the top groups nationwide by multiple publications. Miami’s group of newcomers earned the first top 10 distinction from Baseball America since 2006, coming in at 10th-best in the nation. Collegiate Baseball ranked Miami’s recruiting class ninth-best in the country.
• Eight 2013 Hurricanes made their debuts in the sweep of Rutgers: Christopher Barr, Ricky Eusebio, Frank Grandinette, Alexander Hernandez, Grant Heyman, Brandon Lopez, David Thompson and Thomas Woodrey.
• Four new Canes recorded their first career hits: Eusebio, Hernandez, Heyman, Lopez and Thompson. The quartet of Hernandez, Heyman, Lopez and Thompson also recorded their first career RBI’s during opening weekend.
Starting Off Strong
• Despite missing two top arms due to injury (Eric Whaley and Bryan Radziewski), the Hurricanes starters put on an impressive showing in their opening series with Rutgers.
• LHP Chris Diaz, RHP Javi Salas and LHP Andrew Suarez combined for 17 innings in three starts, and did not allow any earned runs.
• Diaz and Salas each allowed one unearned run in the Opening Day doubleheader, while Suarez, making his first career start as a Hurricane in Sunday’s series finale, allowed zero runs.
