CORAL GABLES, Fla. — The 14th-ranked University of Miami Hurricanes welcome the No. 9 Florida State Seminoles for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series inside Alex Rodriguez Park, beginning Friday, April 29, at 7 p.m. All three games will be televised by CSS.

Miami (28-13, 15-5 ACC) enters the weekend rivalry series having won 23 of the last 28 games, including eight of the last 10 league contests. UM took two-of-three games last weekend against then 10th-ranked North Carolina on the road, sweeping a Saturday doubleheader from the homestanding Tar Heels with the first game being an extra-inning 13-6 effort.

The Canes won their only midweek game this week on the strength of a 14-5 decision over in-state opponent USF in Coral Gables. UM used a season-best nine-run sixth inning to run away from the Bulls for sophomore Steven Ewing’s seventh consecutive win on the mound, as well as the Hurricanes eighth straight midweek win.

Tickets have been going fast all week, as we are expecting sell-out crowds this weekend.

Ninth-ranked Florida State (31-10, 14-7 ACC) brings a season-high seven-game win streak into the game. The Seminoles has a three-game lead in the ACC Atlantic Division, have strung together their most successful stretch since early in the year.

In what is has long been one of college baseball’s biggest rivalries, Miami and FSU have made a combined 43 College World Series appearances, with the Canes having won national titles in 1982, 1985, 1999 and 2001. The Hurricanes also hold an NCAA-record of 38-straight postseason appearances, while FSU has reached 33 straight.

Friday night’s opening game is the 263rd meeting between the schools and a continuation of the most-played series in the history of both programs. Florida State holds a 138-120-4 all-time lead in the series, after the teams split four games in 2010 when the Seminoles won the regular season series in Tallahassee (2-1), but it was the Canes taking a victory in the ACC Tournament.

The Hurricanes hold a narrow 61-60-2 record on their home field, after taking 2-of-3 from the Seminoles in 2009 – FSU’s last visit. FSU’s last series victory in Coral Gables came in 2007.

This year, the Canes are led offensively by Nathan Melendres (.322, 11 2B), Zeke DeVoss (.311, 26 SB) and Rony Rodriguez (.305, 7 HR). FSU is led offensively by James Ramsey (.362, 45 RBI). Seminoles ace Sean Gilmartin (7-1, 1.38 ERA) has been one of the nation’s top pitchers this season, while Miami boasts three weekend starters with an ERA under 3.30.

UMiami freshman third baseman Brad Fieger swings at a .312 clip for the Canes, adding a team-leading 48 hits and 11 doubles.

All three games will be broadcast live on television by CSS, while WVUM, WQAM and ESPN Deportes will carry the games via radio broadcast. Friday night’s WQAM broadcast will be located on 1400 AM, as opposed to the normal 560 AM location on your radio dial.
