Miami's Cuvet, Sosa, Bilka and Evans Selected in 2026 MLB Draft

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Four University of Miami baseball players heard their names called during the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft, as infielder Daniel Cuvet, catcher/first baseman Alex Sosa, right-handed pitcher Ryan Bilka and left-handed pitcher Rob Evans were selected over the two-day event.

With four selections in the 2026 MLB Draft, Miami has now produced 324 MLB Draft picks since the draft era began in 1965. The Hurricanes have had 13 players selected in the first six rounds over the past five MLB Drafts.

Cuvet was the first Hurricane off the board, going to the Washington Nationals in the fifth round with the 138th overall pick. Sosa followed in the sixth round, selected by the Athletics with the 172nd overall pick. Bilka was chosen by the Cleveland Guardians in the 10th round with the 303rd overall selection before Evans was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 12th round with the 365th overall pick.

A three-year standout at Miami, Cuvet’s Miami career puts him as one of the best power hitters in program history. The junior batted .305 with 46 hits, 14 doubles, 12 home runs and 45 RBI in 41 games this season despite missing time due to injury. His collegiate career produced 54 home runs, tied for the third-most in school history and 204 career RBI, which stands fourth all-time in the school’s record book.

Sosa earned one of the nation’s top offensive seasons after transferring to Miami, batting .338 with 75 hits, 16 doubles, a team-leading 18 home runs and 71 RBI in 59 games. The junior slugged .671 and posted a 1.149 OPS while earning All-ACC Second Team and ABCA/Rawlings Southeast All-Region First Team recognition.

Evans emerged as the ace of the Hurricanes’ pitching staff, compiling a 10-3 record and a 3.29 ERA across 87.2 innings. The senior struck out 98 batters while limiting opponents to a .210 batting average and posted a 1.12 WHIP.

Evans became Miami’s first 10-game winner since 2019 and earned All-ACC Second Team, ABCA/Rawlings Southeast All-Region Second Team and NCBWA Third Team All-America honors.

Bilka made 30 appearances out of the bullpen for the Hurricanes, going 2-1 with four saves and a 5.10 ERA over 30.0 innings while striking out 36 batters.
