Alvarez Earns Baseball America Freshman All-America Honors
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami catcher Alonzo Alvarez has been named a Baseball America Freshman All-American, adding another national honor to an outstanding debut season in Coral Gables.
Alvarez started 45 of Miami’s 51 games, batting .341 with a .551 slugging percentage and .990 OPS. The freshman totaled 57 hits, including 13 doubles, two triples and six home runs, while driving in 32 runs and scoring 40 times.
One of Alvarez’s signature performances came in Miami’s opening game of the 2026 ACC Baseball Championship against Stanford. The freshman catcher went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored, totaling a career-high 12 total bases to help lead the Hurricanes to an 11-2 victory.
Alvarez elevated his play during the postseason, batting .583 (14-for-24) with seven runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and six RBI over Miami’s final six games. The freshman catcher posted a .630 on-base percentage and a .917 slugging percentage during that stretch, collecting multiple hits in four contests
Baseball America’s Freshman All-America recognition adds to an impressive postseason for Alvarez, who was previously named a First Team Freshman All-American by Perfect Game after helping the Hurricanes advance to the NCAA Gainesville Regional championship game.
