Miami Baseball Enters NCBWA's Top 10

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team entered the Top 10 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll on Monday after scoring 31 runs in a three-game sweep of Rutgers over the weekend at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
The Hurricanes, moving up from No. 12 to No. 10 in the NCBWA poll, also jumped from No. 12 to No. 11 in the Collegiate Baseball poll while remaining at No. 16 in the Baseball America poll.
Junior leftfielder Chris Pelaez was the `Canes offensive star over the weekend, going 8-for-11 (.727) with a homer, two doubles, four RBI, four runs scored and 13 total bases in his first action as a Hurricane.
Junior left-hander Eric Erickson got the `Canes off to a strong start in the season-opener against the Scarlet Knights on Friday, allowing just two hits and no earned runs in 5 2/3 innings to earn a win in his first outing in over 20 months.
