Miami Baseball Participates In Youth Baseball Clinic
Jan. 20, 2009
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Members of the University of Miami baseball program took part in the Howard Palmetto Baseball Association’s 2009 Opening Day Clinic over the weekend, with head coach Jim Morris, assistant coach Joe Mercadante, nine current Hurricanes and one former UM player conducting instructional sessions at Suniland Park in Pinecrest.
Five juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen took part in that clinic that featured instructional sessions on pitching, fielding and base-running.
“I’ve always enjoyed going out and teaching young players the game of baseball,” Morris said. “It’s also a great opportunity for our guys to give back to the community and thank fans for supporting Miami baseball. It’s really a win-win situation for everyone.”
David Gutierrez, Chris Herrmann, Ryan Jackson, Michael Rudman, Taylor Wulf, Chris Hernandez, Iden Nazario, Harold Martinez and Vickash Ramjit were the current `Canes represented at the event, while the group was joined by former Hurricane Roger Tomas.
The event – that lasted approximately three hours – kicked off the Howard Palmetto spring baseball and softball seasons.
Miami opens its 2009 season at newly-renovated Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field on Friday, Feb. 20 against Rutgers. For ticket information for the 2009 season, call 1-800-GO-CANES, visit www.hurricanesports.com or email canestix@miami.edu.
