Torres Inks Contract with Houston
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Miami Hurricanes fourth-year redshirt sophomore Alejandro Torres signed a professional contract with the Houston Astros Tuesday.
Torres is the third Hurricane to ink a free agent deal following the 2023 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, joining fellow veteran right-handers Ronaldo Gallo (Pirates) and Carlos Lequerica (Tigers).
In two seasons at Miami, Torres notched a 7-1 mark across 57 games, including six starts. The 6-foot-1, 241-pound hurler recorded 97 strikeouts over 72 2/3 innings.
Torres helped anchor the Hurricanes’ pitching staff in his final campaign in the orange and green, tallying a 4-1 ledger and a 4.62 ERA as the set-up man in 2023.
A Miami native, Torres came to The U after two years at FIU.
