CLEMSON, S.C. – The Miami Hurricanes will be making their first trip to Clemson, S.C., since 2014 for a three-game series with No. 8 Clemson from April 13-14 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
The Hurricanes are looking to continue their recent run of success against the Tigers; in the last series between the two teams, Miami swept Clemson in 2016 in a three-game set at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
Miami, which also swept Clemson in its last series at Doug Kingsmore in 2014, is 10-2 against Clemson in its last 12 games against the Tigers dating back to 2012, and has won three straight series against its Atlantic Division foe.
The Hurricanes will be utilizing the same rotation for the fifth straight weekend; senior lefthander Jeb Bargfeldt (2-3, 3.71 ERA) gets the ball Friday night, sophomore righthander Evan McKendry (4-4, 4.14 ERA) and junior righty Andrew Cabezas (3-3, 4.30 ERA) will pitch Saturday.
They will oppose a Clemson rotation that has helped the Tigers’ staff to one of the lowest ERAs in the ACC. Lefthander Jacob Hennessy (3-2, 2.42 ERA) will pitch Friday, righthander Brooks Crawford (3-1, 2.82 ERA) pitches Saturday and southpaw Jake Higginbotham (4-1, 4.05 ERA) pitches in the finale.
The Hurricanes lead the all-time series with Clemson, 38-28-1, but trail in games played in Clemson, S.C. (13-11).
Last time out against UCF, Miami fell, 4-0, in a midweek matchup at Mark Light Field on April 11. Freshman righthander Chris McMahon tossed 4.2 scoreless innings in the first collegiate start of his career, but the Knights scored all of their runs over the game’s final four innings to split the season series.
Three freshmen comprise Miami’s top offensive bats in the lineup: Isaac Quinones (.317), Willy Escala (.306) and Freddy Zamora (.302). Gabe Rivera, who has one home run in each of the team’s last two series, is batting .320.
Following its trip to Clemson, the Hurricanes will open up a five-game homestand Wednesday, April 18 against FGCU. Miami hosts Pittsburgh in an ACC series from April 20-22 and will also host FIU on April 25 before its annual rivalry series with Florida State, which takes place in Tallahassee from April 27-29.
First pitch for Friday’s series opener at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, slated for broadcast on ACC Network Extra and WVUM 90.5 FM, is set for 6:30 p.m.
