@CanesFutbol Captain's Corner: Sept. 14, 2016
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the second year in a row, the captains of the University of Miami soccer team will be writing a blog for HurricaneSports.com throughout the season called Captain’s Corner.
Wednesday, for the second consecutive week, a senior provided a guest entry, with defender Emily Auld doing so this time. The Banbury, England, native checks in to preview the Hurricanes’ upcoming road trip to Florida State, discuss her final season and more . . .
Whatsup, Canes fans!?
Thanks to Shannon [McCarthy] and G [Gianna Dal Pozzo] for allowing another guest entry in their Captain’s Corner.
This past weekend was disappointing for us, losing 1-0 twice. We ended non-conference play at 5-3. As a team, we have set high standards for ourselves so this was disappointing, but we must now focus on the second half of the season, which is ACC games.
We are really looking forward to starting with ACC play on Sunday against FSU. We have all week to prepare for what will be our biggest game thus far and it will be a great test for us. We are flying up to Tallahassee on Saturday and play on Sunday at 1 p.m. Two years ago we held them to 0-0 at halftime. I remember that game really well and we need to bring that same first half energy to this next game.
On our last away trip we had a game night, which was a great way to spend some time together and I think everyone enjoyed it so I am sure that is something we may do again on this trip. Training has gone well so far this week and everyone is focused on Sunday. Everyone on the team has a vital role to play in order for us to be successful and get a win this weekend.
Now that it is my senior year everything we do will be my last, so it seems a lot more significant than it has been in previous years. I am also playing a new position as a defender this year, which has taken some getting used to. I am still trying to improve, but the coaches have helped me a lot, as have some of the more experienced defenders, which I am grateful for.
Thanks to everyone who has come out to our home games. We appreciate the support. Go Canes.
