@CanesFutbol Hosts FC Surge in Exhibition Finale
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After posting a 2-1 comeback win at UCF Thursday night, the University of Miami soccer team will play its second and final exhibition contest Sunday at 1 p.m., against FC Surge at Cobb Stadium.
FC Surge, a member of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL), will be the first non-NCAA Division I team the Hurricanes face in a fall exhibition match during fourth-year head coach Mary-Frances Monroe’s tenure.
An independent national league with teams across the United States, the WPSL features current and former college players from all over the country.
Miami senior forward Gracie Lachowecki, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Molly Lynch, redshirt sophomore defender Danielle Savage and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce were all on FC Surge’s roster this past summer.
FC Surge posted a 4-3-0 record in its 2016 campaign, finishing fourth of nine teams in the WPSL’s Sunshine Division
The Hurricanes, who used second half goals by junior forward Ronnie Johnson and freshman midfielder Lexi Castellano to defeat UCF, will be hosting the first Miami athletic event in any sport in 2016-17.
Miami’s game against FC Surge is set to be its final tune-up before the regular season, which begins Aug. 19 at 7 p.m., at North Florida.
