@CanesFutbol Set for Match at Jacksonville

CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami soccer team will continue its three-match road stretch Sunday afternoon against Jacksonville.

The Hurricanes meet the Dolphins at 1:00 p.m. at Southern Oak Stadium in their fourth of sixth-straight matchups with an in-state opponent.

Sunday’s contest will mark third season in a row Miami (0-4-0) and Jacksonville (1-2-1) have faced one another, with the Hurricanes winning each of the previous two meetings.

Last year, Miami won 1-0 in Coral Gables on a 49th minute header from midfielder Erin McGovern off an assist from midfielder/defender Gianna Dal Pozzo, and both are co-captains this season. The Hurricanes picked up a 3-2 overtime victory in 2013 when Ashley Flinn scored her second goal of the match in the 100th minute.

McGovern, now a redshirt senior, and Dal Pozzo, now a junior, are among eight returning starters this year for Miami. The Hurricanes also have eight true freshmen on the roster, six of whom have seen playing time already in 2015. Defender Maisie Baker has played all 373 minutes so far in her first season as a Hurricane.

Jacksonville posted a 10-8-1 mark last year, including tallying a 4-3-0 record in Atlantic Sun Conference action. The team’s match Friday against Charleston Southern was cancelled due to weather, so its match against Miami will be its first in a week.

The match between the Hurricanes and Dolphins will be televised live on ESPN3 and can be seen HERE. Live stats will also be availabe HERE.
