CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball program received 41 points in the AVCA Division I Coaches 2013 Preseason Poll.

The rankings, which were released Aug. 12 on AVCA.org, had the Canes just outside the Top 25. Miami is sitting 30th behind San Diego, Pepperdine, North Carolina and Illinois. The Canes are one of three ACC teams to receive votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, joining Florida State and UNC.

Miami will face six teams this season whom received votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, including No. 18 Florida State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Long Beach State, St. Mary’s and Notre Dame.

The Hurricanes appeared in the AVCA Poll five times in 2012, reaching as high as No. 23 on Oct. 30, 2012 and Nov. 19, 2012. The Hurricanes’ highest ranking in program history came during the 2011 season, reaching No. 20 on Sept. 12 and Sept. 26.

The Canes, who finished 25-6 (17-3 ACC) and placed second in the ACC a year ago, bring back 2012 AVCA All-American Emani Sims and 2012 All-ACC selections Alex Johnson, Alexis Mourning and Ryan Shaffer as well as 2012 Olympian Savanah Leaf. Miami opens its first season under new head coach Jose “Keno” Gandara on Aug. 30 with matches against Austin Peay and South Florida in the USF Tournament.
