QUOTABLES
Al Golden on who stood out during Sunday’s scrimmage…
“Number one, (Matt) Goudis. Goudis was 3/3 and all were over 45 yards. I think he really struck the ball well. Jermaine Grace did some really good things in the scrimmage…Artie Burns, the moment wasn’t too big for him and he stepped up for us which was nice. There’s just so many, we’re talking about 100 guys who played. It was nice to see Eduardo (Clements) out there… I think (Anthony) Chickillo and Olsen Pierre really played the way we need them to play for us to be good. (Alex) Figueroa showed up which was nice, Al-Quadin Muhammad showed up which was nice. I’m leaving guys out… but it was just nice to see that the moment wasn’t too big for some of the young guys.”

James Coley on having a good RB/QB tandem…
“I think it’s a good thing to have. I think the great teams have it. Look at the teams that are playing in big time bowl games and in championships and they have a quarterback and they have a running back. How rare is it? It’s rare outside the top 20, you know what I mean?”

Mark D’Onofrio on defensive depth…
“We need to have tough competition. We need to have guys competing against one another daily because that brings out the best in any position on the team- whether it’s on offense, defense, or special teams. When you have competition and have guys pushing one another, they all get better. That’s the best way to improve the team.”

DOnofrio on getting pressure on the QB…
“I think (Tyriq) McCord and (Al-Quadin) Muhammad are probably our fastest guys off the edge that stand out right now. Then obviously (David) Gilbert, and pass rush can come from the middle too.”

Stephen Morris on his performance in Sunday’s scrimmage…
“Overall, I thought I did pretty well. There are always things to improve on. I definitely want to just take completions and just move the chains and do the right things on the field in terms of just getting us in the right play and checking us out of bad ones. My role hasn’t really changed.”

Morris on the defense’s performance…
“They’ve been playing really well. They’ve been playing very physical. I think that’s something that we needed. They’re giving us a real hard time in practice. They’re doing an extremely good job. Other than that I think, defensively, a lot of guys are coming back and everyone’s here for them.”

Eduardo Clements on nervousness coming off injury…
“I think practice took a lot of that from me. Just getting back out there with the guys and doing things that I love to do really took a lot of nervousness out of me. I feel like I went out there and did what I had to do.”

Clements on scoring TD in scrimmage…
“It felt great just to be in the end zone and celebrate with team. From the jump, Coach Golden told me I had to get in so I felt like that was my obligation to do.”

Danny Dillard on competition at running back…
“The competition’s stiff. You’ve got Duke Johnson in front of me, and Dallas Crawford. But I mean, we complement each other in a lot of different ways so I think we’ll be pretty good for the season when it comes.”
