10 Named to Phil Steele's All-ACC Team

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Ten Miami Hurricanes players have been named to Phil Steele’s 2013 Preseason All-ACC Team. Phil Steele’s 2013 College Football Preview hits newsstands June 18.

Of the 10 Canes honored, seven of them were on offense, two on defense and one on special teams. 2012 ACC Rookie of the Year and Freshman All-American Duke Johnson was honored on both offense and special teams.

Johnson was tabbed to Phil Steele’s Preseason All-ACC first team at both running back and kick returner. The Miami product enjoyed one of the greatest freshman seasons in Hurricanes history in 2012, amassing 2,060 all-purpose yards and 13 TDs, while breaking Clinton Portis’ 13-year-old school freshman rushing record with 947 yards. His 892 kick return yards were a single-season record, while also tying the school single-season mark with two kick returns for touchdowns.

For his stellar freshman season, Johnson was named a first-team Freshman All-America selection as a kick return and a second-team selection as a running back by Phil Steele.

Senior offensive guard Brandon Linder joined Johnson on the first team. As a junior in 2012, Linder started all 12 games at right guard. He was a third-team All-ACC pick by Phil Steele and a honorable mention selection by both ACSMA and the ACC Coaches.

Junior left tackle Malcolm Bunche and junior defensive end Anthony Chickillo were the Hurricanes’ second-team selections. Bunche started all 12 games at left tackle in 2012, while Chickillo was one of six Hurricanes to earn All-ACC honorable mention from the league coaches. Chickillo tallied 45 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks as a sophomore last season.

WR Phillip Dorsett, LB Denzel Perryman and RT Seantrel Henderson were named to the third team. A 2012 third-team All-ACC pick by Phil Steele, Dorsett led the Canes with 842 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 58 catches. He had the game-winning 62-yard TD reception to defeat NC State in September and later tied the UM single-game school record with 12 receptions against USF.

Perryman played in nine games, making six starts mostly at middle linebacker. A third-team All-ACC pick by Phil Steele, Perryman finished second on the team with 64 total tackles and added 6.0 tackles for loss. Henderson, an All-ACC honorable mention by ACSMA and the league coaches, played 11 games along the offensive line in 2012, starting the final seven games at right tackle.

Rounding out the fourth team were senior QB Stephen Morris, junior TE Clive Walford and incoming P Pat O’Donnell. Morris started all games under center a season ago, throwing for a career-best 3,345 yards and 21 touchdowns. His 3,345 passing yards in 2012 were the fifth-most in program history, while his 3,415 yards of total offense set a new single-season mark at Miami. He also became the first QB in Miami Hurricanes history to post multiple 400-yard passing games in a single season.

Walford enjoyed a career season in 2012, finishing third on the team with 451 receiving yards on 25 catches and tied for the team lead with four receiving scores. He was one of only two Hurricanes to catch at least one pass in all 12 games.

One of Miami’s newest additions, Pat O’Donnell, was tabbed to the fourth team as a punter. O’Donnell spent the previous three seasons as the starting punter for the Cincinnati Bearcats. In 2012, he was a second-team All-BIG EAST selection, averaging 41.8 yards per punt. In 2011, he was a first-team All-BIG EAST performer, posting 43.8 yards per punt. As a graduate student, he will be immediately eligible for the 2013 season.
