TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Miami junior closer Kyle Bellamy has been named a Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I Second Team All-American, as announced by Collegiate Baseball newspaper on Thursday.
Bellamy, who was recently named a semifinalist for both the Dick Howser Award and the Golden Spikes Award, is among the national leaders with 16 saves this season. In 43 1/3 innings pitched, the Davie, Fla. native has allowed just five earned runs while striking out 60 and holding his opponents to a .151 batting average against him.
Ranking among the nation’s Top 5 in saves this year, Bellamy (3-1) is ranked in a tie for 5th all-time in school history on the single-season saves list. In a team-high 28 appearances, Bellamy – an All-ACC First Team performer – has allowed just two extra-base hits all season and is perfect 16-for-16 in save opportunities. Twelve of his 16 saves this season have come from more than an inning of work.
In his career, Bellamy owns a 9-2 record and a 2.08 ERA, striking out 150 batters in 116 2/3 innings. Last season, he was named a Rivals.com Second Team All-American after serving as the set-up man for then-closer Carlos Gutierrez.
The teams were chosen by performances up to regional playoffs and picked by the staff of Collegiate Baseball newspaper. This marks the 13th year that Louisville Slugger has sponsored the Division I All-Americans.
Bellamy and the second-seeded Hurricanes will begin regional play against No. 3-seed Jacksonville Friday at 1 p.m. in the opening game of the Gainesville Regional at Alfred A. McKethan Stadium at Perry Field.
