DURHAM, N.C. – The fifth-seeded University of Miami baseball team dropped its final game of the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship on Friday, falling 10-1 to Boston College at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Miami (36-20) fell behind Boston College (33-24) early on and was never able to recover after the Eagles put up a 4-0 lead after two. The Hurricanes finished the tournament 1-2, with a win over fourth-seeded Georgia Tech on Wednesday before losses to top-seeded Florida State and eighth-seeded Boston College on Thursday and Friday respectively.

Iden Nazario (6-4) suffered the loss for the `Canes, allowing four runs on three hits while walking three and striking out three in 1 2/3 innings. David Gutierrez tossed 2 1/3 scoreless in relief of Nazario but relievers John Housey and Daniel Miranda would each allow three runs in relief.

BC starter Pat Dean earned the win, allowing just one run on eight hits while striking out five in seven innings of work. Kevin Moran and Mike Dennhardt each tossed a scoreless inning in relief.

Ted Blackman had the best day at the plate for the `Canes, going 3-for-4. UM’s top two hitters – Chris Herrmann and Scott Lawson – each finished with two hits.

Barry Butera went 3-for-5 with two runs scored for BC while Robbie Anston and Harry Darling each had two RBI.

Boston College jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with four runs in the top of the second. With bases loaded and just one out, a wild pitch scored the first run of the ballgame. After the second out, back-to-back singles scored the next three, forcing Nazario out of the game early.

The Eagles added three in the fifth and three more in the seventh before the `Canes put up their only run in the bottom of the seventh.

The Hurricanes will now await their postseason fate when the field of 64 is announced for the 2009 NCAA Baseball Championship Monday at 12:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
