CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The seventh-ranked University of Miami baseball team out-slugged Barry University Wednesday night, picking up a 15-10 win at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.

The Hurricanes’ 15 runs marked the third-highest scoring out-put of the season, with Jason Hagerty and Dave DiNatale combining for four hits, seven RBI and four runs scored. Hagerty, who went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double and two walks, finished with four RBI and two runs while DiNatale went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

With the win, Miami improved to 21-7 overall while Barry dropped to 28-4.

With the score tied 10-10 in the bottom of the seventh, the Hurricanes put up five runs in the frame on to take a 15-10 lead. DiNatale broke the tie with a two-run ground-rule double before Hagerty’s bases-loaded double two batters later brought in three more to put the `Canes up for good.

Chris Herrmann had a game-high three hits, going 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and runs, while Jonathan Weislow finished 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs and two RBI. Yasmani Grandal also hit his team-leading eighth homer of the year with a solo shot in the fifth.

Daniel Miranda (2-2) earned the win, tossing 2/3 scoreless in relief. Starter Jason Santana gave up five runs in five innings, but only one of which was earned. Travis Miller allowed five runs in 1 2/3 innings in relief of Santana while Taylor Wulf tossed the eighth and Kyle Bellamy the ninth.

Brian Santana suffered the loss for Barry, allowing three earned runs in 1/3 innings. The Bucs used eight pitchers on the night, including starter Bobby Hernandez, who tossed a scoreless first before the bullpen went the rest of the way.

Barry jumped out to a big lead early on, plating four runs in the first on a Manny Pedrozo grand slam and another in the second on a Joel Keefe solo shot.

Down 5-0 heading into the bottom of the second, UM got its first two runs on RBI singles by Herrmann and Weislow.

The Hurricanes plated more five runs in the fourth to take a 7-5 lead. Hagerty led off the inning with a deep shot to right, cutting the deficit to two. A double by Herrmann followed by a walk and a hit-by-pitch set up a bases-loaded wild pitch that brought the `Canes within one. After Weislow walked to load the bases again, Ryan Jackson doubled to center, scoring two to put UM up 6-5.

The Hurricanes added two more in the fifth on solo homers by Grandal and Weislow, pushing the UM lead to 8-5.

After both teams added a run in the sixth, Barry tied things up in the seventh with four runs, capped off by a three-run homer by Yudelmis Hernandez.

In the deciding seventh, DiNatale’s double to right-center scored Harold Martinez from third and Jackson from second before Hagerty’s bases-clearing double put the `Canes up five.

Yudelmis Hernandez and Pedrozo drove in seven of Barry’s 10 runs while Nick Shaw, Yan Gomes and Yas Gutierrez each finished with two hits.

Miami will turn around and play rival Florida State in a three game series this weekend at Alex Rodriguez Park. Game one of the series is slated for Friday at 7 p.m.
