2007 ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
GAME 8 QUOTES – #5 MIAMI 9, #1 FLORIDA STATE 3
MIAMI HEAD COACH Jim Morris
On tonight’s game making the road to the Championship more interesting…
“You’re right. I guess we will know after that first game whether we have a chance or not. It puts a lot more pressure on our Wake Forest game. But that game is really important to us; whether it’s during the NCAA Tournament or the ACC Tournament.”
On tonight’s performance…
“I am very proud of the way our guys played tonight, especially Eric Erickson. He pitched a great game tonight. I guess we played better defense tonight and scored more runs, which was big for us even though Scott Maine was outstanding the first night. It seems that every time Eric goes out there to pitch, we score more runs than he actually pitches well.”
FLORIDA STATE HEAD COACH MIKE MARTIN
Overall thoughts on the game…
“It’s a great format still, no matter what. Tonight Miami just took us to the woodshed.”
On facing Clemson tomorrow…
“We’re going to throw Bryan Henry tomorrow and a lot of things have to happen. I know that Wake Forest is capable of beating anyone in the country. So it will be interesting to see what will happen tomorrow. Clemson is a very good baseball team. They are well coached and have good pitching. It will be a ball game in which we will have to do the little things successfully in order to win.”
FLORIDA STATE SECOND BASEMAN TONY THOMAS, JR.
On not controlling your own destiny…
“It’s tough going into it knowing that making the championship game is not in your hands. You can do your job and someone can not do theirs. It can be heartbreaking, but it can also be uplifting as well. You just have to go out there and not worry about other teams and play your game.”
