UM Tabbed No. 14 in Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – –

Miami is ranked No. 14 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s 2008 Fabulous 40 Preseason NCAA Division I Poll. The Hurricanes are one of six Atlantic Coast Conference squads in the top 25.

North Carolina earned a spot in the top 10 coming in at No. 5 followed by No. 12 Florida State, No. 13 Clemson, No. 24 Virginia and No. 25 Georgia Tech.

Miami is coming off a 37-24 season (17-13 Atlantic Coast Conference) in 2007 that ended with a NCAA-record 35th-straight postseason appearance at the NCAA Columbia (Mo.) Regional. UM welcomes back seven position starters and two of its weekend starting pitchers led by preseason All-Americans first baseman Yonder Alonso and sophomore left-handed pitcher Eric Erickson.

Miami opens its 2008 regular season Feb. 22-24 when the Hurricanes host Cincinnati for a three-game series at Mark Light Field.
