UM Baseball Knocks Off Barry, 13-6, in Fall Scrimmage

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – – Sophomore shortstop Ryan Jackson drove in three runs and sophomore lefty Eric Erickson tossed three scoreless innings as the University of Miami baseball team defeated Barry University, 13-6, Saturday night at Mark Light Field. The Hurricanes won their second fall scrimmage after handing Indian River a 12-5 defeat Friday night.

Jackson finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks. Junior college transfer Ryan Perry went 1-for-3 with a two-run double. Jason Santana and John Housey each tossed three innings while Kyle Bellamy tossed one inning. Miami pitchers combined for nine strikeouts and only walked two in nine innings.

Barry took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before Miami answered with a four-run bottom of the first. Ben Vazquez put UM ahead with a two-run single giving the Hurricanes a 4-2 lead.

Barry tied the game 4-4 in the top of the second. Jackson drove in a run in the bottom of the second to put UM ahead for good. Leading 9-5, Miami tacked on four runs in the bottom of the eighth to go ahead 13-5 before Barry scored a run in the top of the ninth.

The Hurricanes continue fall practice for the next four weeks. UM’s alumni baseball game is next Friday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m. in conjunction with homecoming weekend. Miami will hold its annual scout day on Nov. 17. Miami baseball practices are open to the public.
