General Game Notes
- With the win, Louisville advances to face the University of Missouri at 6:30 p.m. The Cardinals will need to win Sunday night’s game and then a 1 p.m. contest on Monday to advance in postseason play.
- With the loss by Miami, the Hurricanes are eliminated from NCAA Regional action and have their streak of 13 consecutive NCAA Regional titles snapped.
Louisville Game Notes
- Louisville recorded double-figure hits for the third consecutive game, finishing with 14 base-knocks. The Cardinals had 15 hits in Game One vs. Miami and 15 last night vs. Missouri. Through three games Louisville has 44 total hits.
- Jorge Castillo continued to shred Miami pitching in the Columbia Regional when he recorded his sixth and seventh RBIs off of the Hurricanes thanks to a bases-loaded double in the bottom of the first and a two-out single in the bottom of the sixth. Castillo recorded a three-run homer in Game One vs. Miami. He also had an RBI Saturday night vs. Missouri and boosted his RBI total to eight for the Columbia Regional.
- Pete Rodriguez recorded his 12th and 13th doubles of the year in the fourth and fifth innings. The fourth-inning double gave the Cardinals a 4-3 advantage, while his fifth-inning two-bagger came off of Miami reliever John Housey.
- Catcher Derrick Alfonzo continued to swing a hot bat against Miami, recording a fourth inning double with one out. The Cardinal’s catcher went 5-for-6 vs. Miami in the opening game of the NCAA Regional and the double was his second extra-base hit against UM. He homered vs. the Hurricanes on Friday.
- Daniel Burton recorded his 47th career double in the bottom of the fifth inning to move into a tie for seventh on Louisville’s all-time list. Burton is tied with J.T. LaFountain (2001-05).
- Isaiah Howes recorded an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning to drive home Burton and even the game at 5-5. The RBI was his team-leading 58th of the year and 158th of his career, which ranks No. 9 on Louisville’s all-time list. Howes is tied with teammate Logan Johnson on the RBI list.
- Howes also recorded his 18th double of the year, which ranks No. 10 on Louisville’s single-season list. The double was the 55th of his career, which ranks No. 5 in school history.
- Chris Dominguez recorded his third extra-base hit of the Columbia Regional when he launched his eighth home run of the season over the left field wall in the bottom of the fifth. The two-run blast gave Louisville a 7-5 lead it wouldn’t relinquish.
- Boomer Whiting stole two bases, increasing his school record total to 72 on the year and 111 for his U of L career.
Miami Game Notes
- Richard O’Brien connected on his fourth home run in his last five games when he ripped a solo shot to left field. The round-tripper was his second of the NCAA Regional and second vs. the Cardinals. O’Brien also hit a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning vs. Louisville on Friday.
- Like O’Brien, Mark Sobolewski hit his second home run of the NCAA Regional, hitting a game-tying two-run blast in the top of the fourth to knot the game at 3-3. Sobolewski led off the second inning of Saturday’s game vs. Kent State with a solo homer as well.
- Sobolewski increased his hitting steak to 11 games and finished the season hitting safely in 31 of his last 32 contests.
- Dennis Raben recorded his first home run of the Columbia Regional in the top of the eighth inning to narrow the Louisville lead to 8-7. The homer was Raben’s 12th of the season, which ranks second on the club.
- Miami finished the Columbia Regional with six home runs and five of the six homers were solo shots.
- The 4.1 innings of work for Miami starter Eric Erickson was his shortest stint as a starter this season. Erickson entered the game 10-3 on the year with a 2.00 ERA.
