Miguelez Among "Louisville Slugger's" Players of The Week
March 6, 2006
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami sophomore pitcher Manny Miguelez was named one of the “Louisville Slugger’s” National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper on Monday.
The 6-3, 220-pound lefty from Coral Reef High School needed just 97 pitches to throw a complete game one-hitter against Indiana on Saturday, March 4. He registered a career-high eight strikeouts and held the Hoosiers hitless the final eight innings. The complete-game one-hitter was the first for the Hurricanes since J.D. Cockroft’s gem in the 2003 Coral Gables Regional.
Miguelez is the first Hurricane this season to receive a national honor for his play. He is 3-1 this season with a 1.54 ERA and leads the ACC with 41.0 innings pitched.
Miami returns to action Wednesday, March 8 at 7 p.m. against Michigan State at Mark Light Field. Miguelez is scheduled to take the mound again on Saturday, March 11 against Virginia Tech in Miami’s first ACC series of the season.
