Hurricanes Officially Welcome Football Newcomers

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami’s highly touted class of football recruits was officially greeted by head coach Larry Coker Sunday morning. The newcomers reported beginning at 9 a.m. and were fitted for equipment, underwent physicals and checked in to their dormitories. The remainder of the team reported for fall practice later in the day.
“It’s always a great day for us to welcome the newcomers and get ready to go to work,” said head coach Larry Coker.
Fourteen players who signed with the Hurricanes in February reported Sunday morning and took part in equipment check-out, eye examinations, physicals and dormitory check-in. The newcomers will spend much of the week going through student-athlete orientation while practices for the entire team begin Monday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus at 3:30 p.m. All practices are open to the public from Monday, Aug. 4, through Wednesday, Aug. 13.
University of Miami Football Media Day will be held Friday, Aug. 8, beginning at 10 a.m. Miami begins the 2003 football season on Thursday, August 28, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in Shreveport, La.
