Alvarez Named First Team Freshman All-American by Perfect Game
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami Hurricanes catcher Alonzo Alvarez earned First Team Freshman All-America honors from Perfect Game, the organization announced Thursday.
A native of Brentwood, Calif., Alvarez appeared in 51 games and made 45 starts during his freshman season, batting .341 with 57 hits, 13 doubles, two triples, six home runs, 32 RBI and 40 runs scored. He posted a .439 on-base percentage, a .551 slugging percentage and a .990 OPS.
Alvarez elevated his play during the postseason, batting .583 (14-for-24) with seven runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and six RBI over Miami’s final six games. The freshman catcher posted a .630 on-base percentage and a .917 slugging percentage during that stretch.
His postseason run was highlighted by a four-hit performance against Stanford in the opening round of the ACC Baseball Championship, when he set season highs with two doubles, two home runs, 12 total bases, and three runs scored while matching a season high with three RBI.
Alvarez becomes Miami’s sixth Freshman All-American since 2019. The Hurricanes have produced at least one Freshman All-American in seven of the last eight full college baseball seasons, excluding the canceled 2020 campaign. The list includes Adrian Del Castillo (2019), Carson Palmquist and Yohandy Morales (2021), Daniel Cuvet (2024), AJ Ciscar (2025) and Alvarez (2026).
Alvarez was also named to the ACC All-Freshman Team after helping lead Miami to a 39-win season and the program’s 51st NCAA Tournament appearance.
