Hurricanes Fall Short at No. 2 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The University of Miami soccer team dropped a 2-0 result to No. 2 Florida State at the Seminole Soccer Complex Friday evening.

“The real challenge was coming into the weekend against one of the top teams in the country with some injured players that forced us to change our lineup. It’s hard to do with only two days of training, but I thought we executed the game plan quite well,” Miami head coach Sarah Barnes said. “Our attention to detail and the effort was really strong. Two mistakes against a really outstanding attacker was the difference in the game.”

The Hurricanes (3-5-3, 2-2 ACC), who entered the match off to their best conference start in seven seasons, silenced the Seminoles (8-0-1, 3-0-1 ACC) for nearly 60 minutes.

Florida State standout Jordynn Dudley scored her second straight brace, tallying goals at the 59:03 mark and in the 87th minute to keep the Seminoles unbeaten. The 5-foot-11 forward is the lone true freshman nationally with three multi-goal games this season.

Miami goalkeeper Melissa Dagenais dazzled in the defeat, notching nine saves.

Up next, the Hurricanes head to Chapel Hill, N.C. to face No. 1 North Carolina Thursday. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
