Miami Soccer Defeats Lipscomb, 1-0, with Last-Second Goal

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Freshman Zoie Fontenot found the back of the net in the final second of play to lift the University of Miami soccer team to a dramatic 1-0 victory over Lipscomb Sunday afternoon at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

With the late goal in Nashville, Miami earns its third straight road victory, improving to 3-1-0 on the season.

Miami generated opportunities throughout the match, outshooting Lipscomb, 21-7, and placing nine attempts on goal. Despite the Hurricanes’ offensive pressure, the match remained scoreless through the entire 89 minutes.

With just one second remaining, Ciara Alarcon connected with Fontenot, who delivered the game-winning goal to secure the victory for Miami. The goal marked Fontenot’s third of the season to lead Miami in scoring after four contests.

Atlee Olofson played all 90 minutes in goal for the Hurricanes, recording five saves to help Miami preserve its third consecutive shutout.

Miami finished the match with a 21-7 advantage in shots, a 9-6 edge in shots on goal and a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Fontenot led the Hurricanes with three shots on goal, while Sara Groseibl placed two of her four attempts on frame.

Miami returns to action Thursday, Aug. 27, as the Hurricanes host Incarnate Word in their 2026 home opener at Cobb Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
