Miami Soccer’s Zoie Fontenot Named ACC Freshman of the Week

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami soccer forward Zoie Fontenot was named ACC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.

Fontenot played a key role in a pair of road victories for the Hurricanes last week, scoring a goal in each contest as Miami defeated Little Rock, 3-0, Thursday before earning a dramatic 1-0 victory over Lipscomb on Sunday.

The Long Beach, California native opened the scoring against Little Rock, finding the back of the net in the 22nd minute to give Miami an early advantage. Fontenot finished the contest with three shots, placing two on goal.

Fontenot followed that performance with a memorable finish Sunday at Lipscomb. With the match scoreless and just one second remaining in regulation, the freshman found the back of the net for the game-winning goal, extending Miami’s winning streak to three matches.

She was a constant offensive threat against the Bisons, recording three shots and placing all three on goal. Across Miami’s two victories last week, Fontenot totaled six shots, five shots on goal and two goals, including the game-winner at Lipscomb.

Through the first four matches of her collegiate career, Fontenot has scored three goals, which currently leads all ACC freshmen. She has recorded nine shots with six on goal and has scored two game-winning goals.
