Walters Named Preseason First Team All-American by Baseball America

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Following a banner 2022 campaign, Miami Hurricanes right-handed pitcher Andrew Walters garnered his third Preseason All-America honor, picking up first-team distinction from Baseball America Monday morning.

Walters, who previously received preseason first-team distinction from Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game, was tabbed a consensus All-American a season ago.

The complete list of Baseball America Preseason All-Americans can be viewed here.

A 2022 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Finalist, Walters totaled a 1.65 ERA and 62 strikeouts across 32 2/3 frames. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound hurler’s ACC-best 14 saves checked in fifth nationally and 10th all-time in a single season at Miami.

Among pitchers who threw at least 25 innings at the Division I level last year, Walters leads all returning Power Five arms in WHIP (0.58) and opponent batting average (.116), while ranking third in ERA.

Last week, Walters and the Hurricanes were listed eight in Baseball America’s preseason poll.

Miami begins its 2023 slate against Penn State on Feb. 17. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
