Keith Stone to Join MBB as Graduate Transfer
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami men’s basketball head coach Jim Larrañaga announced Tuesday that Keith Stone will join the program for the 2019-20 season as a graduate transfer. A 6-foot-8, 253-pound forward, Stone played in 85 games over the last three seasons at the University of Florida and has one season of eligibility remaining.
Stone is a native of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and attended Zion Lutheran Christian School.
“We are excited to welcome Keith to the Hurricane family,” Larrañaga said. “He is a dynamic forward with a soft shooting touch and a strong inside game. Keith is a local product, born in Deerfield Beach, where he attended Zion Lutheran High School and was coached by John Guion. He comes from a great family, his mother, Julia Nero, and father, William Stone, as well as siblings, Jeremy, Daniel and Kira. Keith adds a wealth of experience, playing in 85 career games, including six games in the NCAA Tournament. We are excited to add such a gifted player to our program.”
Stone averaged 6.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in 85 career appearances at Florida, including 39 starts. As a junior, he averaged 6.1 points and 3.9 boards per game in 17 games (13 starts) before missing the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, suffered Jan. 19 in a game at Georgia.
Stone averaged 8.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game during his sophomore season, playing in all 34 of UF’s games, including 26 starts. He recorded three 20-point games, including a 22-point effort against Arkansas in the SEC Tournament. Stone joined Florida for the 2015-16 season, which he redshirted.
Coming out of high school, he was rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN and a three-star by Rivals.
Stone joins incoming freshmen Harlond Beverly, Anthony Walker and Isaiah Wong as newcomers to the Hurricanes’ program for the 2019-20 season. Wong and Walker signed with UM during the November signing period, while Beverly officially committed to the program last week during the April signing period. With the addition of Beverly, Miami’s incoming recruiting class moved to No. 25 nationally in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings.
