MBB Signs Transfer Brandon Johnson

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head men’s basketball coach Jim Larrañaga announced Friday the signing of Brandon Johnson.

A 6-foot-8, 210-pound forward, Johnson joins the Hurricanes after spending the last three seasons at East Carolina.

In 2023-24, Johnson started 31 games for the Pirates, leading the team in rebounding (8.6) and finishing second on the team in scoring (14.0). The Raleigh, N.C., native totaled 11 double-doubles, 25 double-digit outings and four 20-point efforts as a junior.

“We are thrilled to welcome Brandon and his family into our program here at Miami,” head coach Jim Larrañaga said. “Brandon is an excellent 3-point shooter, a terrific rebounder and has a high capacity for work. The combination of his experience, size and positional versatility will add tremendous value to our program.”

Johnson ranked in the top 10 among American Athletic Conference players in five statistical categories – rebounding (third), double-doubles (third), steals (eighth; 1.68), 3-point field goals made (10th; 2.1) and minutes played (fifth; 34.69).

He was one of just 12 AAC players to record a 30-point game in 2023-24 after scoring a career-best 30 points at UTSA on February 10.

In his first two seasons at ECU, Johnson appeared in 62 games, starting 37 of them. He averaged 12.3 points and 8.1 rebounds in 2022-23, almost tripling his scoring output from his first year as a Pirate when he averaged 4.7 points per contest.

Johnson spent his freshman season at Brunswick Community College, averaging 5.1 points and 4.2 rebounds across 17 games.
