Four Hurricanes Earn All-ACC Academic Team Distinction
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A record-setting four members of the University of Miami men’s basketball team earned 2023-24 All-ACC Academic Team distinction, as announced Thursday afternoon by the league office.
Previously, the Hurricanes had placed a program-high three players on the All-ACC Academic Team in both 2005-06 and 2017-18.
Junior Matthew Cleveland earned All-ACC Academic status for the second time in his career, while fourth-year junior Norchad Omier and freshmen Paul Djobet and Kyshawn George each garnered their first conference academic honors for their success on the court and in the classroom.
Cleveland finished the 2023-24 season second on the team in both scoring (13.7) and rebounding (6.1) and was the only guard in the ACC averaging more than 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest this year. The Atlanta native holds a 3.329 cumulative GPA and is pursuing a degree in criminology.
The 2024 Skip Prosser Award winner, Omier started all 31 games played for the Hurricanes in 2023-24 and led the team in both scoring (17.0) and rebounding (10.0). He totaled 17 double-doubles this season, good for second in the conference, and was the only ACC player to average 15.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest. Omier is working toward a bachelor’s degree in sport administration and recorded a 3.925 GPA in the fall semester.
George started 16 of 31 games played in his first season at Miami, leading all Hurricane freshmen in scoring (7.6) and rebounding (3.0). He scored in double-figures in 11 contests and became the first Miami freshmen to score 20-plus points in a game since 2020 (Isaiah Wong vs. Virginia Tech). Off the court, George posted a 3.68 in the fall semester while pursuing a degree in sport administration.
In his first year as a Hurricane, Djobet saw action in 16 games and earned his first career start against Duke on Feb. 21. He finished the season averaging 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 41.2 percent from 3-point range. Djobet is working toward a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology and recorded a 3.1 GPA in his first semester at Miami.
Miami has now placed at least one player on the All-ACC Academic Team in 16 of its 19 years in the league.
