Canes Baseball Starring in Summer Leagues

The Canes baseball team is well represented across the nation this summer with players competing in each of the top collegiate leagues. 
 
Thirteen Hurricanes set to return for the 2019 season are competing across seven different summer leagues, including four in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League.

Michael Amditis: Wareham Gatemen, Cape Cod Baseball League
The rising redshirt sophomore batted .333 in eight games for the Wareham Gatemen. The Boca Raton, Fla., native drove in two runs and scored twice before returning to Coral Gables for summer classes.
 
Dylan Cloonan: Newport Gulls, New England College Baseball League/Waynesboro Generals, Valley Baseball League
The two-way player started the summer in the NECBL with the Gulls. In 10 games for Newport, Cloonan batted .290 and scored five runs. The 6-foot-2 southpaw owned a 2.45 ERA in 3.2 innings pitched. For the Generals, the rising sophomore has five hits in his first six games. Cloonan didn’t allow a base runner in his one relief appearance.  
 
Jeremy Cook: Staunton Braves, Valley Baseball League
Cook has been lights out for the Braves earning a spot in the 2018 Valley Baseball League All-Star Game. The southpaw is 4-0 with a 2.89 ERA. The Weston, Fla., native has 33 strikeouts in 18.2 innings pitched. Opposing hitters are just batting .164 off of the rising sophomore. 
 
Willy Escala: Anchorage Bucs, Alaska Baseball League
After a strong freshman collegiate campaign, Escala picked up right where he left off. The middle infielder was named an Alaska Baseball League All-Star, and earned the league’s All-Star Game MVP Award. Escala ranks third on the Bucs with a .268 batting average. The rising sophomore is riding a six-game hit streak and owns a .343 on-base percentage. 
 
Raymond Gil: Harwich Mariners, Cape Cod Baseball League/Winchester Royals, Valley Baseball League
Gil began the summer with the Mariners and reached base in four of his first six games. Since arriving to play for Winchester, the corner infielder has blasted two home runs. The rising sophomore has reached base in three consecutive games. 
 
Kam Lane: Olean Oilers, New York Collegiate Baseball League
The rising senior boasts an impressive .346 on-base percentage and has drawn 16 walks in 26 games played. Lane has reached base in five of his last seven games played, including two multi-hit games during that stretch.   
 
Tyler Paige: Danbury Westerners, New England College Baseball League
Paige has shown tremendous defensive versatility in 21 games for the Westerners. The rising sophomore has played three different positions, including shortstop. Paige has scored four runs in the last three games and has drawn 10 walks, which is tied for third on Danbury. 
 
Isaac Quiñones: Wisconsin Woodchucks, Northwoods League
The Freshman All-American has reached base in six of his last seven games for the Woodchucks. Quiñones has shined defensively as well, recording 11 assists in 21 games behind the dish. The Pembroke Pines, Fla., native has drawn 16 walks, which ranks fifth for the Woodchucks. 
 
Gabe Rivera: Harwich Mariners, Cape Cod Baseball League
The rising sophomore outfielder has flashed the leather in 20 games for the Mariners. Rivera is the lone position player on Harwich yet to make an error. The Miami native got off to a hot start offensively, batting .333 with two RBI in his first four games. 
 
Daniel Rivero: Anchorage Bucs, Alaska Baseball League
Rivero has pitched in five games for the Bucs, including four starts. In his last start, the 6-foot-3 right-hander registered a season-high 10 strikeouts across seven innings. The rising junior has struck out 27 batters in 23.2 innings pitched. 
 
Joe Sparber: Florida Pokers, South Florida Collegiate Baseball League
In three appearances, including one start, the New Jersey native has racked up six strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched. Sparber is holding opposing hitters to just a .190 batting average. Behind the plate, Sparber has registered seven assists compared to only one error.
 
Alex Toral: Wisconsin Woodchucks, Northwoods League
A teammate of Quiñones on the Woodchucks, Toral is tied for first on the club with 24 RBIs to go along with five home runs in a team-high 39 games played. The rising sophomore first baseman was recently named Northwoods Player of the Night after hitting two home runs, including a grand slam and seven RBIs against Madison.
 
Gregory Veliz: Chatham Anglers, Cape Cod Baseball League
Veliz has made 10 appearances for the Anglers and has struck out a team-high 22 batters in 15.0 innings pitched. The 6-foot-2 right-hander boasts a 1.80 ERA with three saves as Chatham’s closer. The rising junior was named a 2018 Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star and will represent the East Division.
