McKendry, Zamora Recognized By ACC
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sophomore righthander Evan McKendry and freshman Freddy Zamora were among those recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference Monday for their outstanding seasons.
McKendry was named to the All-ACC Third Team while Zamora was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team.
A native of Pembroke Pines, Fla., McKendry put together a breakout season on the mound, where he led the Hurricanes staff in wins (seven) and strikeouts (114) and compiled a 3.52 ERA – second-best among weekend starters. McKendry did not miss a turn in the rotation, making 14 starts and compiling the first 100-strikeout season by a Hurricane hurler since Bryan Radziewski accomplished the feat in 2014.
McKendry has totaled 87.0 innings and has posted one complete game this year.
A Miami native, Zamora is the only Hurricane to start all 52 games this season, and ranks second on the team with a .310 batting average. Zamora led Miami in several offensive categories, including hits (63), doubles (12) and triples (four). He ranked second in average, runs scored (32), RBI (26), walks (23), steals (20) and has the fewest strikeouts among all starters (18).
Zamora has posted a .424 slugging percentage – second-highest on the team – and a .395 on-base percentage.
