Chester Drafted in 12th Round by Tampa Bay
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior outfielder Carl Chester was selected in the 12th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday.
Chester, the No. 349 overall pick, was the first Hurricane chosen in the 2017 Draft.
One of just two Hurricanes to start all 58 games, Chester led the Hurricanes in several offensive categories this past spring. Chester batted a team-best .281 and led Miami in total hits (63), runs (41) and doubles (13).
The Longwood, Fla., native, who also led the Hurricanes with 17 multi-hit games, totaled four home runs and 34 RBI.
In his three years with the Hurricanes, Chested has batted .298 with 32 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs and 84 RBI and 35 steals in 186 games, including 169 starts.
The 2017 MLB Draft continues Wednesday with Rounds 11-40.
