Miami Named ITA Academic Team, Six Canes Honored
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the second consecutive year and third time in the last four, the University of Miami women’s tennis team was honored as an ITA Academic Team and six Hurricanes were tabbed as ITA Scholar-Athletes, as announced Thursday night.
In order to earn ITA Academic Team status, a program must have a cumulative 3.20 GPA. Miami was one of eight schools in the ACC to receive the team honor, along with Boston College, Duke, Florida State, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame and Wake Forest.
Silvia Fuentes, Ana Madcur, Yolimar Ogando, Clara Tanielian, Stephanie Wagner and Wendy Zhang were all named ITA Scholar-Athletes. The honor goes to varsity letter winners who have been at their school for two-plus semesters and had at least a 3.50 GPA for the 2015-16 academic year.
This is the second straight year Fuentes, Wagner and Zhang have garnered ITA Scholar-Athlete recognition.
Earlier in July, all eight Hurricanes from the 2015-16 roster were named to the 2015-16 ACC Honor Roll, an accolade that requires a 3.0 GPA for the school year.
