Four Hurricanes Named to All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Miami senior Thomas Woodrey, redshirt junior Christopher Barr, junior Bryan Garcia and sophomore Jesse Lepore were among those recognized with All-ACC Academic honors, the conference office announced Friday.

The honor was the second for Woodrey, a finance / health sector management & policy major, and the third for Garcia, who is majoring in accounting.

Garcia was one of only six players listed named to All-ACC Academic Team for the third time.

Woodrey, a Senior CLASS Award finalist, made 18 appearances on the hill for Miami in 2016. The senior southpaw recorded a 5-4 record and a 4.98 ERA in 68.2 innings.

Barr served as Miami’s starting first baseman for the second straight year and batted .256 in 61 starts. He added six doubles, three triples and 25 RBI, and finished with 14 steals.

Garcia, named the NCBWA Stopper of the Year as the nation’s top relief pitcher, posted a 1.89 ERA and an ACC-leading 18 saves. He set the Miami saves record and tied the ACC record with 43 in three years.

Lepore finished the year with a perfect 9-0 record after serving as Miami’s midweek starter. He recorded a 2.20 ERA – lowest among all starters – and struck out 57 batters in 73.2 innings.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
