CANES OPEN POSTSEASON WEDNESDAY IN DURHAM
• After capturing the 2016 ACC Regular Season Championship in the final weekend of the regular season vs. Florida State, top-seeded Miami will head Pool A at the 2016 ACC Baseball Championship.
• With a 21-7 ACC record, Miami successfully captured the regular season title for the second time in three years and for the third time in history (2008, 2014). Louisville will head Pool B as the No. 2 seed.
• The Hurricanes have not missed the ACC Championship since joining the conference prior to 2005; UM’s lone ACC title came in 2008.
• UM went 2-1 as the No. 2 seed at the 2015 ACC Championship; its last title game appearance was in 2012, an 8-5 loss to Georgia Tech.
EIGHT EARN CONFERENCE HONORS
• Miami had seven players recognized with All-ACC honors on May 23, the second-most among all teams in the ACC (Louisville – 9).
• Zack Collins (first team, C), Johnny Ruiz (second team, 2B), Brandon Lopez (third team, SS), Willie Abreu (third team, OF), Carl Chester (third team, OF), Michael Mediavilla (third team, SP) and Bryan Garcia (third team, RP) were all recognized by the ACC.
• In addition to the seven all-conference honorees, righthander Frankie Bartow was recognized with ACC All-Freshman honors.
CLIMBING UP THE RECORD BOOKS
• Bryan Garcia entered the year with the fifth-most saves in Miami history (25), and moved into a tie for first at UM with his 39th save on May 21.
• 39 career saves are the most by any active pitcher in the nation.
• Garcia moved past Rick Raether (1984-86) into sole possession of second place (38) with a save against Florida State in Game 1 of the series, and tied Georgia Huguet (2001-2004) for first in Game 2 (39).
ONE OF THE ACC’S COMPLETE TEAMS
• Miami and Louisville ended the regular season as the only two teams to rank in top five of all major statistical categories: batting average, earned run average and fielding percentage.
• The Hurricanes were fourth in team average (.302), third in team ERA (3.51) and first in team fielding percentage (.982).
