CANES WELCOME RATTLERS TO THE LIGHT
• Fourth-ranked Miami continues an eight-game homestand Friday with the first of three games against Florida A&M at Mark Light Field.
• The Hurricanes carry a 19-7 all-time lead in the head-to-head series with the Rattlers, but the two teams have not met since 1981. Miami boasts a perfect 10-0 all-time record against FAMU at The Light.
• The weekend with FAMU will mark Miami’s fi nal nonconference series of 2016; Miami is 16-3 in nonconference games in 2016.
• Miami lefthander Thomas Woodrey (4-3, 4.94 ERA) will oppose Rattlers lefthander JoJo Durden (1-0, 3.51 ERA) in the opener.
MIAMI RANKED IN TOP FIVE OF EVERY POLL
• The Hurricanes were ranked as high as No. 3 in polls released on April 25; Miami was ranked No. 3 by D1Baseball and USA TODAY Coaches Poll, and were No. 4 by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, Perfect Game and NCBWA.
• Miami was ranked No. 1 in fi ve of six polls released Monday, April 25 – marking the first time the Hurricanes were No. 1 in back-to-back weeks (April 18, April 25) since June 3, 2008 and June 10, 2008.
COLLINS, GARCIA SPIKES CANDIDATES
• Miami juniors Zack Collins and Bryan Garcia were among the 60 players named to the midseason watch list for the 2016 Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced Wednesday, April 20.
• Miami was one of just eight schools to have multiple players listed; former 3B David Thompson was a 2015 Spikes semifinalist.
DESTINATION: OMAHA
• Miami made its return to the College World Series in 2015, marking the program’s first trip to Omaha, Neb., since 2008. Miami’s 24 College World Series trips are the second-most of any program in the country.
• The Hurricanes have won 48 games in the College World Series, the fourth-most of any program nationwide; Miami’s four national championships (1982, 1985, 1999, 2001) rank fifth-most.
• Since the NCAA began award national seeds prior to the 1999 season, Miami has been among the top eight six seasons: 1999 (#1), 2001 (#2), 2003 (#8), 2004 (#3), 2008 (#1) and 2015 (#5).
• Of the 41 teams that have been awarded national seeds since 1999, Miami is one of just 12 programs to have earned the distinction five or more seasons.
