CANES OPEN HOMESTAND WITH OWLS
• Top-ranked Miami opens an eight-game homestand Wednesday, April 20 with a midweek matchup vs. No. 21 FAU. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
• The Hurricanes last took two of three games in a weekend series at Duke (April 15-17), and remained No. 1 in five of six major polls.
• Miami and FAU were scheduled to square off three times across the season – once in Boca Raton and twice in Coral Gables – but the first game (March 30) was postponed due to rain.
• The Hurricanes carry a commanding 57-13 all-time lead in the head-to-head series, and have won seven of the last 10 matchups.
NUMBER ONE FOR WEEK NUMBER TWO
• Miami was ranked No. 1 in five of six college baseball polls released Monday, April 18 – marking the first time the Hurricanes have been No. 1 in back-to-back weeks since June 3 & June 10, 2008.
• Miami was ranked No. 1 by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, Perfect Game, D1Baseball and the USA TODAY Coaches Poll, and was No. 2 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
GOLD GLOVE DEFENSE
• In the newest NCAA Division I statistics released April 18, Miami had the fourth-best fielding percentage in the country and the best fielding percentage in the ACC at .982.
• Miami has made just 23 errors in 2016, compared to 56 by opponents. The Hurricanes had made 44 errors at this point in 2015 – a year where Miami made it to the College World Series.
• The Hurricanes’ starting infield of third baseman Edgar Michelangeli (1), shortstop Brandon Lopez (4), second baseman Johnny Ruiz (4) and first baseman Christopher Barr (2) have combined for just 11 errors.
HEATING UP
• Miami has won 24 of its last 27 games dating to a 6-2 win over FGCU at Mark Light Field on March 2. Key contributors over the stretch have been Zack Collins (.432, 8 HR, 34 RBI, 34 BB, .583 OBP), Carl Chester (.387, 6 2Bs .481 OBP) and Brandon Lopez (.376, 8 2Bs).
• Top players on the mound have been Danny Garcia (5-1, 2.04 ERA, 39.2 IP with 21 Ks), Bryan Garcia (2-0, seven saves, 32 Ks in 19.1 IP) and Jesse Lepore (5-0, 2.14 ERA, 32 Ks in 33.2 IP).
