Monroe Releases @CanesFutbol Spring Slate

CORAL GABLES, Fla. University of Miami soccer head coach Mary-Frances Monroe announced the team’s 2016 spring schedule Monday.

The Hurricanes will play five exhibition matches, with two coming in February, followed by one in March and the final two in April. Four of the contests will take place on Miami’s home field at Cobb Stadium, while the other will be at a neutral site.

“We have some great games setup for the spring,” Monroe said. “We will have the opportunity to play an international team, which will be a great experience for this group.”

Miami will open its spring slate with a neutral site meeting against Florida Atlantic Feb. 19 at 7:45 p.m. The match will be held at Ronald L. Book Athletic Stadium in North Miami Beach, Fla.

Monroe’s side will then move on to its aforementioned international match. The Hurricanes will take on the Costa Rican Youth National Team Feb. 27 at noon at Cobb Stadium.

After nearly a month without a match, Miami will welcome FGCU to Coral Gables for a 2 p.m. match on March 26. During the 2015 regular season, Miami posted a 1-0 road win against the Eagles.

The Hurricanes will conclude spring play with a pair of matches on the second weekend of April. Miami will play on the road at FIU April 8 at 7:30 p.m. and then will finish the spring at home against Barry April 10 at 1 p.m.

“With the team working so hard in the spring, it is a great reward to get out there and play other teams,” Monroe said.

All five matches are open to the public and free of charge. Miami returns 17 players from its 2015 team, including Second Team All-ACC selection forward Gracie Lachowecki and a pair of co-captains in defenders Gianna Dal Pozzo and Shannon McCarthy. Monroe also added seven newcomers in Miami’s 2016 signing class.
