Baseball Ranked No. 4 in 2016 Preseason Poll
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes baseball team checked in at No. 4 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s annual preseason rankings released Monday, marking Miami’s highest preseason ranking from the publication since 2005.
Miami returns 19 letterwinners from a 2015 team that won a second straight ACC Coastal Division title and qualified for the College World Series for the 24th time in program history.
The Hurricanes’ 2016 schedule includes home series against three teams ranked in the top 10 (No. 1 Florida, No. 2 Louisville, No. 9 Virginia and No. 22 North Carolina), as well as road series against No. 16 Florida State, No. 21 Georgia Tech and No. 27 Notre Dame.
The Hurricanes, who earned the No. 5 national seed entering last year’s postseason run, won 50 games and ended the season ranked No. 6 by Collegiate Baseball. Miami extended its own college baseball record by qualifying for the NCAA postseason for the 43rd straight year; the Hurricanes have not missed the NCAA postseason since 1972.
