Thompson Named ACC Co-Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Miami slugger David Thompson was honored by the Atlantic Coast Conference for the second straight week Monday, earning Co-Player of the Week recognition.

Thompson had another sensational week for Miami (18-7, 6-3 ACC), powering the Hurricanes to a 3-1 mark including a series victory over Wake Forest. He shared the honor with Florida State outfielder DJ Stewart.

The junior connected for four home runs over the four-game week, including grand slams against Army and Wake Forest, and set a career high with seven RBIs in a series-opening win over the Demon Deacons. For the week, Thompson registered a triple slash of .389/.400/1.278 with two doubles, one triple, four homers, 13 RBI and 23 total bases.

The Miami native also extended his hitting streak to a career-best 14 games with a triple in the series finale against Wake Forest.

Thompson, who leads the nation in RBI (39) and ranks second in the ACC in home runs with eight, has the second-highest slugging percentage in the ACC (.732) and second-most total bases (71).

Thompson and the Hurricanes return to Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field Wednesday for a matchup with FGCU. First pitch for the game is set for 6 p.m.
