DeLucia Named Assistant Baseball Coach

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Head baseball coach Jim Morris has announced the hiring of Michael DeLucia to the position of assistant baseball coach.

DeLucia will oversee catchers and will assist hitting coach Gino DiMare with the Hurricane hitters.

“It’s been a long process trying to find someone who fits in this role,” Morris said. “We wanted someone who can work with catchers, and Mike has an impressive history as a catcher in high school and college.

“His reputation is an extremely high worker, and he’s a local guy from Fort Lauderdale. If you add that all together, he’s the right fit for us here at Miami.”

DeLucia played high school baseball at nearby Archbishop McCarthy before eventually arriving at Campbell University. He played two seasons with the Camels, hitting .316 with two home runs and 30 RBI in his final year on a Campbell team that finished the regular season 49-10.

“I’m very excited. I great up down here and always grew up a UM fan,” DeLucia said. “To come back and be a part of the program as a coach is an opportunity of a lifetime. I’m excited to learn under this great staff, absorb as much as I can, and play a part in the tradition and success that’s been happening here for quite a while.”

He remained with the program as an assistant coach in 2014.

DeLucia will be working with a position boasting talented veteran Garrett Kennedy and 2014 Baseball America Freshman of the Year Zack Collins.

“It’s important. He has two catchers with some experience and he’s definitely got some talent to work with,” Morris said. “I know he’s excited about that, and I know the players are excited about having someone like Mike in to help them.”

Miami opens fall practice on Oct. 20. All practices will take place at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field and are open to the public. For more information, follow @CanesBaseball on Twitter and Instagram, or LIKE Miami Baseball on Facebook.
