@MiamiTrack Starts Strong at GT Invitational
ATLANTA – The University of Miami track and field program had a solid start to the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday.
The Hurricanes earned five top 10 finishes, including a pair of Top 3 finishes, on the opening day of the two-day meet at the George C. Griffin Track on the Georgia Tech campus.
Amber Monroe placed second in the women’s shot put with a mark of 15.86m, while Gian Piero Ragonesi finished seventh in the men’s shot put with a throw of 16.58m
Alyssa McClure finished third in women’s 100m final with a time of 11.76 seconds. In preliminaries, the senior ran the fourth-fastest qualifying time, winning Heat 2 with a time of 11.71 seconds.
Lea Johnson finished sixth in the women’s hammer with a throw of 55.67m, while Carlos Mangum placed eighth in the men’s hammer with a mark of 56.93m.
Kayann Richards finished second in Heat 3 of the women’s 100m hurdles with a time of 13.85 seconds and Alysha Newman won Heat 5 of the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.22 seconds, but they did not advance to the final.
Miami alum Devon Hill won the men’s 110m hurdles final with a time of 13.66 seconds. A volunteer coach for the Canes, Hill ran a 13.84 during preliminaries to head into the final as the top seed.
Saturday’s action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with the women’s high jump, while the women’s 4x100m relay will be the first running event of the day beginning at 1 p.m. Fans can follow all the action through the meet results page.
