@CanesVB Falls at Wake Forest 3-1
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The University of Miami volleyball team battled, but dropped Friday’s match at Wake Forest in four sets.
The Hurricanes (13-6, 6-3 ACC) fell to the Demon Deacons 25-19, 16-25, 25-18 and 25-21.
Miami’s attack was balanced, with four Canes tallying at least nine kills on the evening. Savanah Leaf was Miami’s kill leader with 18. The junior outside hitter also tallied seven digs, five blocks and a team-high three service aces.
Sophomore Misty Ma’a added 11 kills and eight digs, while senior Alex Johnson and junior Emani Sims each chipped in with nine kills against Wake Forest.
Sims, who also had five blocks, was one of Miami’s most efficient hitters, tallying a .304 hitting percentage. Fellow junior Alexis Mourning led the Hurricanes with a .400 attack percentage.
Junior setter Blair Fuentez recorded a double-double with 46 assists and 12 digs, while senior defensive specialist Ryan Shaffer led Miami with 20 digs.
The Hurricanes will look to bounce back from Friday’s match on Saturday in Durham, N.C., for a 6:30 p.m. battle against the Duke Blue Devils.
Following this week’s trip, Miami returns home for the first time since Oct. 13. The Canes will host NC State at 7 p.m. on Nov. 1. Two days later, the Hurricanes will host North Carolina at 1 p.m. in the Knight Sports Complex.
