@CanesVB Beats Georgia Tech 3-1
ATLANTA – The University of Miami volleyball team beat Georgia Tech in four sets, completing another undefeated weekend of ACC play.
The Canes (11-3, 4-0 ACC), who beat Clemson in four sets on Friday night, defeated the Yellow Jackets Saturday night 21-25, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-18. A week ago, Miami defeated conference foes Boston College and Syracuse.
Miami’s attack was led by junior Savanah Leaf’s 15 kills. The outside hitter also added 15 digs, recording her team-leading eighth double-double of the season. Sophomore Misty Ma’a also registered a double-double, tallying 12 kills and 11 digs against the Yellow Jackets.
Senior Alex Johnson was the third Hurricane to record double-digit kills with 14. Junior middle blocker Emani Sims was efficient with her attacks, collecting nine kills in 16 attempts for a .562 attack percentage.
Blair Fuentez kept Miami’s hitters active, collecting 47 assists. The junior setter also added a pair of blocks and a service ace against Georgia Tech.
Defensively, junior middle blocker Alexis Mourning led the Canes with four blocks, while senior defensive specialist Ryan Shaffer collected a team-high 21 digs.
The Hurricanes return to Coral Gables to host Pitt in their ACC home opener Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Knight Sports Complex. Miami will host Maryland on Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. in their annual “Dig Pink” match to help raise money for breast cancer research.
