Thompson Named Freshman All-American

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami Hurricanes third baseman David Thompson was recognized Monday with second-team Freshman All-America honors from Perfect Game.

Thompson, who made 51 starts on the season, led Miami in several offensive categories. The Miami, Fla., native paced the Hurricanes with six home runs, 46 runs batted in, 84 total bases, a .462 slugging percentage and 14 multi-RBI games. He was ranked second in batting average (.286), doubles (14) and multi-hit games (17), and reached base in Miami’s final 28 games of the season.

Thompson, who opened his freshman campaign at first base before moving across the diamond midseason, went 6-for-20 (.300) with four RBI in six postseason starts. He was named to the 2013 Louisville Regional All-Tournament team and was also named the team’s Rookie of the Year.

The former Westminster Christian standout is Miami’s first Freshman All-American since Bryan Radziewski garnered Baseball America second-team honors in 2011. Thompson was one of seven from the Atlantic Coast Conference recognized.
