Diaz, Radziewski Earn ABCA All-Region Honors
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami starting pitchers Chris Diaz and Bryan Radziewski were among those recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) with All-Region honors Monday.
Radziewski was one of four starters named to the 2013 ABCA All-Atlantic Region First Team, while Diaz earned one of four nods for Second-Team All-Atlantic.
Radziewski returned from 2012 season-ending shoulder surgery to deliver one of the most dominant campaigns nationwide this past spring. Radziewski, who was also named to the 2013 All-ACC First Team, finished with a 9-3 record and 1.78 ERA in 14 starts. The Miami, Fla., native who recorded the second-lowest ERA of any Miami starter, struck out 109 batters in 91.0 innings. In his first weekend start, Radziewski struck out 16 Virginia Tech batters – just three shy of the single-game conference record – in one of two complete-game shutouts on the season.
In his first year as a member of the weekend rotation, Diaz was also ranked among the conference leaders in a number of key statistical categories. The Florida City, Fla., native registered a team-best 1.64 ERA in a team-high 109.2 innings, and delivered 14 quality starts (at least six innings, three earned runs or less) in 16 chances – including nine straight to end the season. The sophomore southpaw was named a semifinalist for the inaugural Gregg Olson Award, honoring college baseball’s breakout player of the year.
