Radziewski Selected by St. Louis Cardinals

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami junior ace Bryan Radziewski became the eighth Hurricane selected in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Saturday.

Radziewski was picked up in the 29^th round (No. 875 overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Miami, Fla., native returned from season-ending shoulder surgery in 2012 to deliver one of the most dominant campaigns nationwide this past spring. Radziewski, who was named to the 2013 All-ACC First Team, finished with a 9-3 record in 14 starts. The southpaw registered a miniscule 1.78 ERA, the second-lowest of any Miami pitcher, and struck out 109 batters in 91.0 innings.

In his first start in the weekend rotation against Virginia Tech, Radziewski struck out 16 batters – just three shy of the conference single-game record – in one of two complete games on the year. For his impressive accomplishments, Radziewski was one of 60 players named to the watch list for the 2013 Golden Spikes Award, annually honoring the top collegiate baseball player in the nation.

Radziewski joins fellow Hurricanes Eric Nedeljkovic (21^st round, Colorado Rockies) and Chantz Mack (29^th round, Seattle Mariners), as well as signees Matt McPhearson (fourth round, Arizona Diamondbacks), J.D. Underwood (fifth round, Los Angeles Dodgers), Willie Abreu (14^th round, Cincinnati Reds), Derik Beauprez (25^th round, Boston Red Sox) and Zack Collins (27^th round, Cincinnati Reds) as draftees through the first 30 rounds.
